The Magic of Christmas

GFPTA
You can't fail to notice that Christmas has well and truly landed at Greenfields!

The staff and GFPTA felt that it was very important that the children had a truly magical Christmas this year. We would like to say an enormous thank you to the GFPTA for all their hard work and thank you to the staff for being such good sports and allowing the children to soak them!

Year 3 Cathedral visit

jhdjdj
As part of our ...be brave.. value focus, Year 3 went to Newcastle Cathedral. We were able to really explore the beautiful cathedral; looking at religious artefacts, the materials the cathedral was built from and soaked up the magical atmosphere of this very reverend place.

The children completed workshops throughout the day focused on perspective and what they could see through different viewpoints, using a circle. We also spent time in the 'Quire' looking at the wooden carvings at the end of the pews. We then had the opportunity to carve our designs into soap.

The staff were so proud of the exemplary behaviour and respectful attitudes the children showed. Well done Year 3!

Public Health Update

You will have no doubt seen, heard and read in the media the intensive coverage around the pros and cons of schools and other organisations continuing with their Christmas plans.

At Greenfields, we are very lucky to have much more space at our disposal than many other schools which allows us to operate much of what we have planned within our risk assessment.

However, in light of recent updates we have decided to make some amendments to our planned events, please see the information below.

Please do be reminded that we should all be vigilant to symptoms for COVID and access a test for ourselves or our children in these circumstances. Please do, take the advice to access a PCR test if you contacted by NHS as a close contact.

Thank you for your on going support.

Unfortunately we will not be able to hold our traditional family carol service at St Columba's church. We will instead be having carols in the school yard. We would love to see as many of our families as possible to share this special afternoon with us.

The service will take place on the last begin at 2pm and will last for approximately 30 minutes. You will be able to take your child home straight from the yard after the service. Please come prepared for the weather! (Umbrellas etc!)

Be Brave

In our half term value,
...be brave... we encourage children to 'confront your fears and take a chance.' Today our Christmas Fayre has shown us the power of community and what we can achieve together. Can you tell us about a time where you have worked together as a group or with someone else to make some special happen?

Reading recommendation

Grandad's Secret Giant by David Litchfield. This is story about someone who feels that they don't belong because of who or what they are. As we reach the end of the story, it teaches us that we can all belong!
