On your bike!

This week we have been encouraging and trying out all things wheeled! Sustrans National Bike Week has been a big deal at Greenfields this year, because for the first time ever, we have had our own school bikes to ride on. This has meant that everyone has had the chance to practice their bike skills- for some children they have learned to ride a bike this week.

The children and the staff have had an amazing week... I wonder where our bike travels will take us next?

For more pictures of the children on bikes please go to our school Twitter page:

Muddy Bairns or Messy Bairns?

Our Muddy Bairns were in for more treats this week as they began the first of their Little Learners sessions. It began with this very messy, but lots of fun, foamy session.

Congratulations!

A very big well done to the children in Year 4 who took part in the STEM Academy North competition this week. They were one of only 53 schools to find the missing bonus round and were put into a prize draw to win £250 worth of vouchers for STEM equipment for school. Well done Year 4!

ACT2CAM Drama sessions for Greenfields

Children in every class had the most fabulous dramatic experience this week with thanks to Stephen from ACT2CAM drama workshops. The children engaged with a range of dramatic activities- freeze frames, conscience alley, thought windows and confidence games. Stephen commented to staff about how well the children conducted themselves, how ell behaved they were and what talented budding thespians we have in our school.

Well done everyone!

Parent Pay - school lunches

Payment for School Lunches
We have been contacted by a number of families unsure about the new North Tyneside payment system for school lunches. Joinos has been replaced by parentpay.

We would urge all of our parents to register with parentpay by emailing: parentpay@northtyneside.gov.uk (even if you are entitled to free school meals / universal infant free school meals) as this is not only an online payment facility but an important form of communication with the catering team at the Local Authority.

We are also aware in the roll out of this new system, some parents have received letters requesting payment.

If you have any questions or queries relating to this please email parentpay@northtyneside.gov.uk where a member of the Local Authority catering team will be able to help you.

Thank you

Be Amazed

In our half term value,
...be amazed... we encourage children to 'follow their dreams.' Never let it be said that you are too old for dreams! I wonder what you are dreaming of... and most importantly, how can you plan a way to make it a reality?

Reading recommendation

"Emmanuel's Dream: The True Story of Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah" by Laurie Ann Thompson.

Our reading recommendation this week is a true story about a boy called Emmanuel. Emmanuel was born in Ghana with only one leg. Most children with disabilities didn't go to school, but Emanuel was determined and hopped two miles each way to attend school. After his mother died, he decided to honour her last words by proving "that being disabled does not mean being unable." He completed the astounding feat of bicycling 400 miles in 10 days. To say the least, Emmanuel's is an inspiring story
