Supporting the children of Wideopen to be amazed, be brave, be original and be bold.

Mrs Ele Dobson- Headteacher
school

Our first week!

It is with the very warmest wishes that I welcome you back to school and to the start of a new school year. I hope that you all had a restful holiday and were able to enjoy some of the beautiful weather we had.

I cannot welcome you back without passing comment on our quite fabulous new uniforms! The children look so smart; they are walking around our school with such pride. We had so many families send in to us their first day selfies, thank you! It was so lovely to see the children ready and raring to go for the new term ahead.

Welcome back everyone!

Be Amazed

This half term our school focus value is:

Be Amazed
~stay curious and follow your dreams...never lose your sense of wonder~

This value is represented by the lightbulb symbol. It is all about ensuring that your children foster a sense of curiosity; the kind of curiosity that can only come from being introduced to the widest of worlds including the most spectacular that the human and natural world has to offer.

We want your children to dream big! Our curriculum focus subjects this half term are Art and D&T. This means that these subjects will receive special attention, alongside the broad, rich and balanced curriculum that all children access here at Greenfields.

Please look out for our posts on our social media pages and join in where you can. This half term we would love you to share with us your experiences of our ...be amazed... value. It could be something as special your child following their dreams in something outside of school, to the very simple; a beautiful sunrise for example.

Looking After Each Other

GCPS_RGB logo 123
At the end of last week I wrote out to you with some guidance from NHS and the government as to how we are now being asked to function in the forthcoming months.

Please do make sure that you have read the information carefully. I must reiterate that schools are required to have an Outbreak Management Plan which details the return to reinstating restrictions if we are deemed to have an outbreak of COVID19 in school.

Please make sure that you and your family are following infection control guidance and isolating if you are instructed (and legally) required to by test and trace. Please make sure that if you or your child develops symptoms of COVID19 that you seek a test and inform school at the earliest opportunity.

Throughout the period of the last 18 months we have shown what a fantastic team we make because we worked as a community to look after one another.

A heartfelt thank you for your ongoing support.

REMINDERS...

Jewellery
Please be reminded that children should not be wearing any jewellery in school. This includes earrings. Clear plastic retainers for pierced ears are allowed. Staff will ask your child to remove their earrings if they are wearing them in school on the grounds of health and safety. Please can you help us by making sure that your child has removed their earrings before coming to school. We do have a small stock of clear plastic retainers for parents if you require them. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

Collection and Drop Off
Please be reminded that unless your child is in Y5 or Y6, they should be dropped off and collected by an adult.

If you give your child permission to leave our site without an adult please complete the google form which can be accessed here:
https://forms.gle/NUoUKtyoKDhK3NY19

Please do not leave your child to wait at their door before our staff have opened it to welcome children. You must inform us via the office if the collection arrangements have changed for your child. We cannot accept another parent informing us that they are collecting your child at the end of the day. Thank you.

Payment for School Lunches
We have been contacted by a number of families unsure about the new North Tyneside payment system for school lunches. Joinos has been replaced by parentpay.

We would urge all of our parents to register with parentpay by emailing: parentpay@northtyneside.gov.uk (even if you are entitled to free school meals / universal infant free school meals) as this is not only an online payment facility but an important form of communication with the catering team at the Local Authority.

We are also aware in the roll out of this new system, some parents have received letters requesting payment. If you have any questions or queries relating to this please do get in touch and we can direct you to the correct department to help you.
Thank you

Reading recommendation

For our first reading recommendation of the new term, why not take inspiration from this fabulous book by Gordon Grice. The Cabinet of Curiosities is a fabulous guide to creating your own collection of things that made you stop and wonder. I wonder what might pique your curiosity?

Our ‘Ready for the World’ Awards celebrate when children have demonstrated outstanding characteristics which will enable them to become successful learners of the future.
We are looking forward to sharing with you next week the first of our children who have demonstrated how 'ready for the world' they really are!

Toast club at 8:15am

It has been so lovely to see so many of you dropping your children early into school for toast at 8:15am.

We were hoping to be able to enable parents to pay using the gateway app- however, doing this would remove the flexibility of using the service as and when you need it.

If your child is in Reception -Y6 and you would like to bring your child for toast, please bring them to the front office from 8:15am. The cost of this service is £1 per day. Please pay at the office in the way in.

Thank you
