Supporting the children of Wideopen to be amazed, be original, be brave and be bold.

Mrs Ele Dobson- Headteacher

Greenfields' Summer of Adventure

We have started this term true to form.. with a fabulous adventure to Druridge Bay in Northumberland. School staff and staff from High Borrnas Outdoor Educational Centre in the Lake District treated the Year 6 children to orienteering, (revisiting the map reading skills we learned in the Autumn Term) team beach games, beach combing, fire building and popcorn making (and eating!) on the beach.

This begins our adventure term for all children and giving our children a chance to really experience our ...be bold... value.

Every class will be taking a visit to Powburn Scout Centre in the Ingram Valley in the last two weeks of term; we only hope the weather is as good for them!

Well done Year 6, the High Borrans staff commented on your enthusiastic participation, your polite and courteous behaviour but best of all your passion for an adventure!

Great stuff!

Special Birthday!

This year marks the 1500th birthday of St Columba; our special church in Wideopen shares his name. St Columba was quite a trail blazer in his time. He is most famous for establishing an abbey on the remote island of Iona in Scotland.

In many ways Columba shared the same values as we do in school. To...
~ be amazed
~ be brave
~ be original
~ be bold

To celebrate and commemorate his birth there will be the opportunity for children to find out more about this special man and have a slice of cake in the grounds of St Coumba's Church on Saturday between 10am-12noon.

All are welcome!

Exciting news!

We know that for many of our working parents, finding quality childcare for your children which is local and where you know your children will be happy and safe, during the school holidays can be challenging.

We might be able to help!

Please look out for the letter going home to families on Monday to give details of a holiday provision in our Stepping Stones and Muddy Bairns beginning in September 21.

Infection control

Please help us by ensuring that you and your families are also helping us by accessing the twice weekly lateral flow tests (LFT) which are now available to all families and that if you are eligible to take up the offer of a vaccination please do so.

If you, your child or anyone in your household develops symptoms, please make sure you book a test and isolate until you have the results.

Please make sure you read carefully in the information that is included in the letter from public health that is being sent out to families today.

Thank you for your continued support, we have worked so hard together

New School Badges

Our new school badges are now available for purchasing from the school office. Mrs Wilson is looking forward to seeing you!

...be bold..

Part of having an adventure might mean that you have to put yourself out of your comfort zone. Can you tell us about a time that you have had to push yourself beyond your comfort zone.

Reading recommendation

"Because" by Mo Willems
This is a powerful symphony of chance, discovery, persistence, and magic in this moving tale of a young girl's journey to centre stage.

Parking on Taylor Avenue

We are respectfully asking parents and carers to park with consideration in our local streets. Please do be careful not to block the driveways of local residents or to park on the footpaths.

Thank you for your support.

Payment for Trips and Visits

As you know we have some really exciting visits and trips happening for children towards the end of this term.

You are now able to pay for these using our cashless school gateway app.

If you would like volunteer to help on one of these trips please email our parents and carers email address with your availability. A big thank you to all those adults who have already offered to help!

...a message from the office...

Mrs Wilson is completing some training courses this term in the afternoons. If you are trying to get in contact with school please either leave a message and Mrs Wilson will get back to you or email the parents and carers email address.

Thank you.

Sports for Champions

This week you will have received a letter telling you all about one of the exciting events we have planned for the children during National Sports Week.

Together with Sports for Champions, we will be hosting elite gymnast Jaydon Paddock in school on 22nd June. Jaydon will be talking to the children about the importance of hard work and determination and supporting them to complete a sponsored fitness circuit.

If you would like to sponsor your child to complete the circuit, you can either pledge a sponsor on the form that came home with the letter, or donate on our crowdfunder page using this link.

Thank you!
