Supporting the children of Wideopen to be amazed, be brave, be original and be bold.

Mrs Gemma Robertson - Headteacher

Headteacher's Message

We have thoroughly enjoyed starting our new term with the children after the half term break. We've had a busy first week back, with school trips, a residential, Remembrance Day Service and lots of hard work from the children.
As always, there is lots to look forward to this term. We have the whole school pantomime on Thursday 30th November, Christmas performances, more trips, parent's evening and so much more

Learning Across School

We've only been back in school for a week, but the children have done so much; from looking at money in maths, to visiting the farm to taking part in our Remembrance Day Service...
School life
Reading

Reading

We are committed to developing a reading school in which all pupils value reading in and out of school daily for pleasure, to grow knowledge, language and reading ability. We aim for pupils to do a little bit of reading every night at home to get into good habits and encourage reading to be a part of everyday life. We also understand that this is impossible on some occasions and for many reasons: after school clubs, family commitments, tired pupils and we are not worried about a missed session if the general routine is in place.

We would love some parent\carer volunteers to support with the running of the library and to hear children read. If yiou have an afternoon free, once a week, once every two weeks, once a month, please complete the following link and we will be in touch:

Year 4 Residential

Robinwood
Our Year 4 children went to Robinwood this week on a residential trip for two nights and three days and what a fantastic time they had. They were certainly pushed out of their comfort zone and faced many fears but what a great time they had doing it.
PTA
As you will be aware, the PTA has recently had a reshuffle where new roles were delegated and voted on. We continue to look for any parents and carers across school who'd like get involved. You don't need to commit to helping with every event, any time you can give will be greatly appreciated.
Already this half term, the GFPTA have organised a successful Halloween disco, Rainbow Raffle and 'Break the Rules Day'. We are aspiring to put regular events on throughout the academic year.
If you would like to get involved send an email to gfpta@greenfieldsprimary.org.uk or get in touch with Sam via the parent WhatsApp groups.

Please see below dates for upcoming GFPTA events this half term. More information will follow:
December
  • Wednesday 6th December – Family Christmas Quiz night 3.30pm-5.30pm
  • Friday 8th December – Breakfast or Tea with Santa
  • Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th December – The Polar Express Movie night
Soldiers

Remembrance Day Service

Today we held our very own Remembrance Day Service. The children sang songs, did readings and a prayer. We were very lucky to be joined by Reverend Pauline Pearson, Sergeant Paul Currey, Fusilier Les Farthing and Captain Darren Chrisp of 5th Fusiliers.
Thank you to our children for putting on a beautiful service to remember those who have fought for their country, lost their lives for their country and who continue to fight for their country today.

We will remember them.

Book
In a world built for Perfect Pets, Barnabus is a Failed Project, half mouse, half elephant, kept out of sight until his dreams of freedom lead him and his misfit friends on a perilous adventure.
Deep underground beneath Perfect Pets, where children can buy genetically engineered "perfect" creatures, there is a secret lab. Barnabus and his friends live in this lab, but none of them are perfect. They are all Failed Projects. Barnabus has never been outside his tiny bell jar, yet he dreams of one day seeing the world above ground that his pal Pip the cockroach has told him about: a world with green hills and trees, and buildings that reach all the way to the sky, lit with their own stars. But Barnabus may have to reach the outside world sooner than he thought, because the Green Rubber Suits are about to recycle all Failed Projects . . . and Barnabus doesn't want to be made into a fluffier pet with bigger eyes. He just wants to be himself. So he decides it's time for him and the others to escape. With his little trunk and a lot of cooperation and courage, Barnabus sets out to find freedom -- and a place where he and his friends can finally be accepted for who they are.

Ready For The World Awards

2AW: Hugo, Max, Harris
4DL: Chloe, Micaely, Lucas

Year 2 Trip to the Farm

Farm
Our Year 2 children enjoyed a trip to Morwick Farm on Tuesday. They learnt so much about what happens on a working farm and even got to make and taste their very own ice cream!

Attendance Matters

Our attendance for 2022-2023 was 94% for the year. This is in line with the National Average and an improvement on 2021-2022. Thank you to all parents and carers who continue to support the best attendance. This makes such a difference to the opportunities for pupils.
September 2023- Organised and On time
Please make a huge effort to ensure children come to school organised and on time with maximum
attendance. Getting to school on time and everyday will support the
children’s mental health in terms of accessing all lessons and making positive relationships with their friends. Please
continue to get in touch if you are experiencing any difficulties with attendance or are worried about your child’s
attendance - we are here to help.

Holidays\ Leave of Absence
Please ensure we are informed of any leave of absence\holiday dates with advanced notice, where possible. This must be
done by completing a leave of absence form that can be found at the school office.

SEND Coffee Morning

On Thursday 23rd November at 10:00am we are holding a coffee morning in school aimed at families who would like further support around their child's additional needs. Your child does not need to have a diagnosis for you to attend. We want the coffee morning to be a way of enabling a network of parents, teachers and carers to meet
up, have a voice, support each other, share ideas, concerns and good practice. The aim is that the session is relaxed and welcoming so that parents can share their ideas
and thoughts freely. If you have any questions about the coffee morning please speak to Mrs Wilson or Mr Lumsdon.

RECEPTION PUPILS COME AND JOIN US!

Parents can now apply for school places in Reception. Information on how to do this has been sent to our current nursery families via the school office. Please apply online.

birth of your child in the email.
The closing date for Reception applications is the 13th January 2024
