Greenfields Community Primary School Newsletter June and July

{item_alt_tag}

Dear families,

What a summer term we've had here at Greenfields; it really has been jam-packed. Every year group enjoyed their end-of-year summer trip, Sport's Day was a success, the Year 6 children went to Ford Castle for a residential, we've had water fights, outdoor play and so much more.

As we come to the end of another academic year, we need to say a fond farewell to two much loved members of staff. Mrs McGarry retires at the end of this term. She has been an invaluable member of staff since joining the school, supporting the children, families and the staff. We will all miss her and wish her lots of luck in her retirement. We also say goodbye to Mrs Foster, who has been a teacher at our school for nearly two years now. Mrs Foster has worked across the school, teaching children in many year groups and has made such a difference to their education. We will really miss Mrs Foster and hope she comes back to visit us.

I also want to say a warm welcome to Miss Hogg who will be joining Miss Watton in the office in September. I know you will all welcome her to the Greenfields community and support her while she is learning the complicated and very busy role of Admin Assistant.

As we look forward to transition week next week, here is a reminder of the classes for September 2025:

Some important reminders for next week:

Transition Week

On Monday, the children from Nursery- Year 5 spend three days with their new teacher, in their new classroom. Drop off and pick up won't change for the children during transition week; they will be collected off the yard by their new teacher where they are currently collected and will be dropped off in the same place at the end of the school day.

Meet the Teacher

On Tuesday the 15th July, you have the opportunity to come into school 2.30pm-3pm to meet your child's new teacher and the staff that will be supporting them. If you have more than one child in the school you can move between the classes as you need to. At 3pm, you will be asked to make your way out onto the yard to collect your child(ren) as normal. Staff will get the children ready for home time as quickly as possible.

We will be putting tables of pre-loved uniform out on the yard from 2.15pm. Please take what you need. If you have any uniform to donate, you can drop it off at the office.

School Picnic

On Thursday lunchtime, the children and staff will be having a whole school picnic with games on the school field. If your child has a school dinner, they will be served their meal in a take away box that they can take outside with them. If your child has a packed lunch, please send them in with their normal packed lunch. Once the children have finished their lunch they will play a selection of games to celebrate the end of the school year as a school community.

The menus for this day will be battered fish and chips with beans or peas, and the usual selection of jackets and sandwiches.

Please do not provide any extra food, and remember that we have children with severe allergies in school, so food can not always be shared.

Books

On Thursday, your child will come home with their school books so please send them into school with a strong carrier bag. As many of you will know from previous years, schools are required to keep a small number of children's books. If your child is affected by this, they will come home with a slip to inform you of this.

Our last day of this term for the children is Thursday the 17th July, as school is closed to the children on Friday the 18th of July.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for the support you give the school. Greenfields is a community school so without your support we couldn't give the children the opportunities that we do.

We hope you all have a lovely summer and we look forward to seeing you back in school on Wednesday the 3rd of September.

Best wishes,

Mrs Gemma Robertson

Headteacher

Be Original

Our value 'Be Bold' encourages children to be courageous and take risks, stepping out of their comfort zone.

#BeBold

#Readyfortheworld

Bea feels misunderstood when she is repeatedly told to "keep it down," and "don't be so loud!". As she boldly navigates her everyday life, Bea shows us the importance of honouring everyone's voices - no matter how loud they might be.

Bea is not loud--she is BOLD!

Sometimes people tell Bea she's just too much. Whether she's bugging her brother like a buzzing bee, helping out a bit too much in class, or blasting her trombone as loud as it goes, she is often misunderstood. While grown-ups and even other kids might see Bea as loud, we know that she's got stuff to say, things to do, and friends to make!

This story is for the child who lives out LOUD and boldly uses their voice to be heard above the crowd. Bea's story shows us that when the strongest voices are celebrated, their boldness inspires beauty and positive change all around us.

Ford Castle - Year 6 Residential

Some of our Year 6 children went to Ford Castle for a 4 night/5 day residential in June. They had a brilliant time! They took part in many different activities, including, bridge abseiling, raft building, high ropes, archery, rifle shooting and much more.

Summer End of Year Celebrations

To celebrate a brilliant year for all of our children, each phase went on a fun end-of-year trip. Nursery and reception went to the beach, Year 1 and 2 had fun at Homeside Park, Year 3 and 4 went to Tynemouth Park and the beach and Year 5 and 6 went to Whickham Thorns. At Greenfields, we feel that it is important to celebrate the children's successes and this was the perfect way to do it.

Behaviour at Greenfields

This academic year Greenfields became a Rights Respecting School. Rights Respecting behaviour starts with the children and the school community learning about children’s rights, putting them into practice every day. It is not just about what children do but also, importantly, what adults do. In Rights Respecting Schools, children’s rights are promoted and realised and adults and children work towards this goal together.

Alongside this, we take a reflective approach to behaviour. We know that behaviour is a form of communication and, just like adults, children will make mistakes sometimes. What we feel is extremely important is that, if a child makes a mistake, they learn from it. If a child's behaviour escalates beyond this, we do have to look at more serious consequences. However, the hope is, that with a consistent behaviour management approach and Rights Respecting behaviour this will not happen.

Sports' Day

We were pleased that the rain in the morning didn't stop our Sports Day this year. The children all did amazingly well and it was lovely to see some of that competitive spirit. It was a shame that the rain stopped the parents' race at the end - let's hope for a dry day next year!

Football Success at Greenfields

{item_alt_tag}

Football at Greenfields this academic year has been the best we've ever seen. Our amazing Year 5 & 6 football team finished the season as league winners after winning the North Tyneside league. They also went to Hazelwood Primary School at the end of last month, where they remained undefeated in both of their matches, not conceding one goal. Not only do they all have impressive skill, they work as part of a team and it really has been a pleasure to watch them.

Our newly formed Year 3 and 4 football team have started off with force. They also won both of their matches against Hazelwood Primary School and last night finished second place out of 16 teams in the Year 3/4 summer tournament.

A huge thank you to Mr Lumsdon and Mr Watson for the impressive coaching and support they have given the boys this year.

Leavers 2025

This week, the Year 6 children put on two outstanding performances of their leavers show, they've had a leaver's tea and a disco. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house after their leaver's show, including myself.

At the end of next week, our wonderful Year 6 children leave Greenfields Primary School to start a new chapter in their lives at Secondary School. We are all so incredibly proud of each and every one of them. They are an absolute credit to their families and to us as a school and we are going to miss them. We wish them lots of luck and hope they come back and visit us.
