Dear families,

Christmas has well and truly arrived at our school! Gilly the Elf has been causing plenty of excitement with his cheeky mischief around the building, bringing lots of smiles and laughter. The recent trip to the Theatre Royal pantomime was a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Meanwhile, the children have been working incredibly hard rehearsing for their Christmas performances taking place this week, and we are so proud of their efforts. With movie night already creating a lovely festive atmosphere and the children eagerly looking forward to their upcoming Christmas parties, it has been a wonderfully busy and joyful time for all.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our families a very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year.

Best wishes,

Mrs Gemma Robertson

Headteacher

Be Brave

~ confront your fears and take a chance... mistakes are the best lessons ~

We show this value by the footsteps image and tell the children that they need to be brave in their choices. We teach the children that they have to make a mistake sometimes to know how to make things right next time.

Saying goodbye to neighbours. Worrying about new friends. Passing through a big city. Seeing a dark road ahead. In these moments, a young girl feels small and quiet and alone. But when she breathes deeply and looks inside herself, a hidden spark of courage appears, one she can nurture and grow until she glows inside and out.

Year 4 Forest School

December has been Year 4s Forest School and they have loved it. We have enhanced our Forest School curriculum to make it even more enjoyable and rich in experiences for our children. The updated programme offers more hands-on activities, opportunities for exploration, and chances to develop confidence, teamwork, and a love of the outdoors. Through these engaging experiences, children will continue to learn, discover, and thrive in our amazing Forest School environment.

Christmas at Greenfields

Christmas really is a special and magical time at Greenfields and although we know it is important to continue teaching and learning, we know how important it is to create special memories for the children too. This year, the children really have had a wonderful time, starting with the pantomimes, tree decorating, Christmas jumper day, Christmas lunch and Christmas movie night.

The Return of Gilly ...

I'm sure your children have told you all about our mischievous Christmas elf Gilly. Every year, he returns to Greenfields on the 1st of December and causes lots of fun and laughter around school. We have loved having him back and can't wait to see what he gets up to this week before he returns to the North Pole.

Mrs Bank's SENDCo - December Update

As we come to the end of the autumn term, I would like to take a moment to recognise just how hard the children have worked over what is often a very busy and sometimes disruptive period. With rehearsals, performances, visits and special events taking place, the pupils have shown real resilience, maturity and focus. They should be extremely proud of how they have continued to engage positively with their learning while embracing all the excitement that comes with this time of year.

December also saw our annual Inclusion Quality Mark review take place, and I am delighted to share that the assessment went extremely well. The assessor recognised the strong sense of belonging across the school, the calm and nurturing learning environments, and the consistent, rights-based approach that underpins behaviour and relationships. Pupil voice was highlighted as a real strength, with children confidently articulating their views, understanding their rights and responsibilities, and demonstrating empathy and respect for others. We are very proud to have been recommended to retain our Flagship School status, which reflects the commitment of staff, pupils and families to inclusive practice.

Throughout this term, we have continued to prioritise collaboration and learning from others. As part of our Voice21 oracy project, staff have visited two different schools to observe oracy in action. One of these schools had a high proportion of pupils with English as an Additional Language and children with SEND, which provided valuable insight into how oracy approaches can be implemented inclusively. These visits have helped us reflect carefully on our own practice and ensure that our Voice21 work supports all learners to develop confidence, communication skills and a strong sense of voice.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We look forward to building on this work in the spring term and continuing to strengthen our inclusive provision so that every child feels valued, supported and able to thrive.

Mrs Banks, SENDCo

Real-life Experiences

At Greenfields, we know how important it is to give our children real-life experiences. Last week our Year 1 children were very lucky to invite a real-life baker into school. Mr Welsh taught the children how to make melting snowman biscuits from scratch! We were so impressed by the children's efforts. Thank you to Mr Welsh for giving up his time to give the children this fantastic experience.
