Dear families,

It is hard to believe that we are now halfway through this half-term and what a busy one it's been so far. We've already had many things going on such as, the Year 4 residential to Robinwood, our Remembrance Day Service, the Winter Sing and Children in Need. And of course there is much more to come as the festivities begin with the Pantomime this week for Year 1 to Year 6 and we are hoping to see the return of the Greenfields Elf, Gilly.

Best wishes,

Mrs Gemma Robertson

Headteacher

Be Brave

~ confront your fears and take a chance... mistakes are the best lessons ~

We show this value by the footsteps image and tell the children that they need to be brave in their choices. We teach the children that they have to make a mistake sometimes to know how to make things right next time.

Everything so far, if Peijing had to sum it up, was a string of small awkward experiences that she hoped would end soon.

The night of the Mid-Autumn festival, making mooncakes with Ah-Ma, was the last time Peijing remembers her life being the same. Now facing a new home, a new school and a new language, everything is different. But Peijing hopes her new friend Joanna can show her the way.

Soon though, cracks start to appear in Peijing's family. The grown-ups are no longer themselves and Biju needs her to be the dependable big sister. Peijing has no idea how she's supposed to cope with the uncertainties of her own world while shouldering the burden of everyone else.

If her family are the four quarters of the mooncake, where does she even fit in?

A big-hearted, magical story about sisterhood and a family finding their way in a new place.

Robinwood

Our lovely Year 4 children went to Robinwood at the start of November and what a wonderful time they had. They took part in so many activities, including, high ropes, canoeing, caving, night line, the famous piranha pool and so much more. It was a pleasure to hear them all talking so excitedly about the experience when they returned to school.

Muddy Bairns Daycare

Our Muddy Bairns Daycare is thriving. We have a waiting list and another intake of children in January. The feedback we've had from families and from people who've visited us from the local authority has been amazing. If you know of anyone looking for an outstanding daycare provision please ask them to email muddybairns@greenfieldsprimary.org.uk or phone the school office 0191 6250100.

The Winter Sing

On Wednesday the 12th of November, some of our brilliant Key Stage 2 children performed two songs to a packed audience at Whitley Bay Playhouse. The children sang beautifully and were even accompanied by Mr Coverdale on the guitar for one of their songs. It was an amazing night and we are very proud of each and every one of them.

Stargazing at Greenfields

At Greenfields, we have a strong link with Kielder Observatory. Every year in the autumn or spring term, we have an astronomy club, where children who sign up, have the chance to talk to astronomers from Kielder Observatory and learn all about space. This then finishes with a trip up to the observatory to see real-life astronomers in action.

Last week, we were very excited to welcome two astronomers to Greenfields who hosted a Stargazing session for families.  They got the chance to go into the planetarium, took part in star-gazing through state-of-the-art telescopes on the school yard and enjoyed some craft activities with hot chocolate and biscuits. It was a great success with over 50 families taking part, and we can't wait to welcome the observatory back to Greenfields next academic year.

Mrs Bank's SENDCo Update

It’s hard to believe we’re already approaching the end of another busy term. The children have made a fantastic start, and it has been wonderful to see them settling confidently into their routines and embracing new learning opportunities. I am sure they are all really excited about the upcoming festivities.

This half term, our focus has continued to be on supporting the mental health and wellbeing of all pupils. We are very fortunate to have two trainee counsellors from the Northern Guild completing their placements with us. They have been working with children across the school on strategies for managing worries and building emotional resilience, and the impact so far has been extremely positive.

We also continue to work closely with the Connect Mental Health Team, making referrals for any children who may need additional support with managing big emotions. Our Year 5 pupils have recently completed the FRIENDS resilience programme through Connect, helping them develop confidence, problem-solving skills, and healthy coping strategies.

In December, we will be welcoming our Inclusion Quality Mark assessor for our annual review as we work to retain our Flagship School status. This process is an important opportunity for us to reflect on our inclusive practice and celebrate the progress we’ve made together.

We are also proud to share that we have achieved the Bronze Award for our Rights Respecting Schools work. This reflects the commitment of pupils and staff to promoting children’s rights across the school community.

As part of our ongoing commitment to learning from others and continually improving what we offer, some of our staff recently visited Bedlington Station Primary School. This collaboration allowed us to see first-hand how they create inclusive classroom environments, including thoughtful seating arrangements and low-arousal lighting. We are excited to trial some of these approaches in Key Stage 1, ensuring our classrooms remain calm, welcoming spaces where every child feels comfortable and ready to learn.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to building on this strong start as we move into the busy Christmas period!

Mrs Banks, SENDCo

Parking Around School

Please park safely and considerately when dropping off or picking up your children. Please do not block people's drives or park over drop-down kerbs, as this limits access for wheelchair users and those people with buggies.

We have a small number of disabled bays around school. Please do not park in these bays unless you are a blue badge holder.

Thank you to those people who continue to park safely.
