Greenfields Community Primary School Newsletter July 2026

Dear families,

As we reach the end of another school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on what an incredible year it has been for our children. They have embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, curiosity, and joy, and our school has been filled with learning, adventure, and countless moments that have made us all proud.

This year has seen us embark on some truly brilliant trips, each one enriching the children’s understanding of the world and sparking new interests. We have also welcomed a wonderful range of visitors into school who have inspired, challenged, and excited the children with their knowledge and experiences.

A particular highlight has been the remarkable success of our Daycare, which only opened in September and has already become a thriving, joyful part of our school community. The children have flourished, and it has been a delight to see this new provision grow from strength to strength.

Across the school, our excellent curriculum continues to ensure that every child learns a breadth of knowledge in real depth. From hands-on exploration to rich discussion and creative thinking, the children have shown resilience, imagination, and a genuine love of learning.

Thank you for your ongoing support, encouragement, and partnership. It makes such a difference, and we are truly grateful. I wish all our families a wonderful, restful summer and look forward to welcoming everyone back in September for another exciting year ahead.

Best wishes,

Mrs Gemma Robertson

Varjak Paw is a kitten, who lives high up in an old house on a hill.

He's never left home, until he receives a mysterious visit from his grandfather, who tells him about The Way - a secret martial art for cats.

Now Varjak must use the Way to survive in a city full of dangerous dogs, cat gangs and, strangest of all, the mysterious Vanishings.

Varjak Paw is a celebration of friendship, loyalty and difference and is an adventure like no other.

Our Astronomy Club visited Kielder Observatory this half-term and what a wonderful trip they had. The children got to look through real-life telescopes, examine real space rocks from the moon and discovered lots of things about our Universe.  One of our children even found their own star.

Mrs Banks' SENDCo Update – July

As another school year comes to an end, I would like to take the opportunity to thank our children, families and staff for their continued support in making Greenfields such an inclusive and nurturing place to learn. It has been a busy year, and I am incredibly proud of everything our children have achieved.

This half term has been filled with exciting experiences, including end-of-year trips, visits and celebrations. While these events create wonderful memories, they can also bring changes to routines that some children find challenging. It has been lovely to see the children embracing these opportunities with such enthusiasm, supported by staff who have worked hard to ensure everyone could take part and enjoy the experiences.

Preparing children for change has also been a key focus over the past few weeks. Children have spent time with their new teachers and visited their new classrooms as part of our transition programme. To further support those who benefit from additional preparation, personalised social stories have been shared with families to help children become familiar with new adults, classrooms and routines before September. We hope these strategies will help children return feeling confident and ready for the new school year.

We were also delighted to welcome the Early Years Inclusion Team into school to deliver a parent coffee morning focused on brain development and how this links to children's behaviour. It was a valuable opportunity to explore how children's developing brains influence the way they communicate, regulate emotions and respond to the world around them, and how, by understanding this, we can better support them both at home and in school.

Looking ahead to next year, we are excited to continue developing our inclusive practice. One of our priorities will be to strengthen pupil voice, giving children even more opportunities to share their ideas about what helps them learn best and how we can continue to make school an environment where everyone can thrive. This year has been our first year of introducing more flexible seating options and creating calmer, more homely classroom environments. The positive impact on children's comfort, independence and engagement has been encouraging, and we look forward to building on this further in September.

Finally, I would like to wish all of our families a happy, safe and restful summer break. North Tyneside Council have shared ideas for activities to keep children entertained over the holidays, many of which are designed with inclusion and SEN support in mind.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back in September for another exciting year of learning, growth and inclusion.

Summer Term Trips

Our children have worked so hard all year, so we like to celebrate their hard work with an end-of-year trip. Our reception children went to the beach, Year 1 and 2 went to Adventure Valley, Year 3 and 4 went to Beamish and Year 5 and 6 went to Clip & Climb and Bowling. They all had a fabulous time and, as always, represented our school beautifully.

We love to Learn Outdoors

At Greenfields, we love to take our learning outside. Here you will see our Muddy Bairns Daycare exploring, our nursery children in Forest School and our reception children in the Muddy Garden. Research tells us that children have better physical, mental and emotional health, and even improved learning, when they play outdoors.

Attendance

As you all know, good attendance and punctuality offer your child the best opportunities in their education. Some of you may have been invited into school for a meeting to discuss your child's attendance. This is a supportive meeting where we discuss anything school can do to support your child to increase their attendance.

At Greenfields, we encourage the children to come to school as much as they possibly can. Each week a class wins the attendance cup – for the best attendance or the most improved. If a class wins, they get to choose a treat. Last week, Year 5 won and they chose a water fight! Next academic year we are going to be introducing a different way of selecting prizes, so watch this space.

Champions of Champions

Our amazing football team only went and did it again. Last week, they came up against the winners of the 4 areas of North Tyneside in the Champions of Champions Cup final and they won! This means that Greenfields Community Primary School came first out of approximately 70 other schools – what an amazing achievement.

The Country Trust

We have a strong relationship with the Country Trust. Each year, every class takes part in a trip to a working farm to learn all about where our food comes from and what farms do to make this happen. This academic year, our Year 3 class have been working very closely with Debbie from the Country Trust on a project which included cooking, gardening, making bird feeders, a visit to the farm, a family feast and a playground market.
