Greenfields Community Primary School Newsletter - March 2026

Dear families,

Spring term has been jam-packed as always. We had World Book Day, parent's evening, our geography fieldwork trips, reception went on a trip to Whitehouse Farm and Year 6 are currently on a residential trip to Ford Castle. As you know, at Greenfields, teaching and learning and personal development are high priorities because we know that children learn in lots of different ways. This being said, it was lovely to see some of our Year 3 children performing a dance on the stage of Whitley Bay Playhouse as part of North Tyneside's dance festival and some of our lower school children did an amazing job at the Playhouse last night, performing three songs to a huge audience as part of the Spring Sing.

This half-term, you may have heard your children talk about the importance of good attendance. Each week during Friday's celebration assembly, the class with the best attendance or the most improved attendance gets to choose a class treat to celebrate this. Mr Coverdale set the school a challenge a few weeks ago; any class that beat Year 6 to the attendance trophy would get a treat from him and guess what ... two classes managed to do this, so Mr Coverdale had to stick to his promise. We really appreciate your efforts to get your children to school every day. Of course, we understand that children get poorly, but if they are well enough to be here it is really important that they are.

As we near the end of another half-term, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you all for continuing to support our community school. I feel very lucky to be the headteacher of such an amazing school and that is because of the children, the staff and you as parents and carers.

Best wishes,

Mrs Gemma Robertson

Headteacher

~Never stop asking questions... seek out the answers~

The raised hands represent fostering our children to be questioning and evaluative of all they see and hear. Our children are encouraged to think originally about what they have learnt.

From his seat in the tiny aeroplane, Fred watches as the mysteries of the Amazon jungle pass by below him. He has always dreamed of becoming an explorer, of making history and of reading his name amongst the lists of great discoveries. If only he could land and look about him.

As the plane crashes into the canopy, Fred is suddenly left without a choice. He and the three other children may be alive, but the jungle is a vast, untamed place. With no hope of rescue, the chance of getting home feels impossibly small.

Except, it seems, someone has been there before them.

This is a brilliant book aimed at 9-11 year-old children.

Greenfields Taking Whitley Bay Playhouse by Storm!

We couldn't have been prouder of the children who performed on the stage at Whotley Bay Playhouse. One group performed in the Dance Festival and the other in the Spring Sing - they really were outstanding!

Mrs Banks' SENDCo Update – March

It has been another busy and productive month in school, and it has been wonderful to see the children continuing to engage so positively with their learning.

This month, we were pleased to welcome our governors into school to see our oracy work in action, with a particular focus on how our Voice21 project is supporting pupils with special educational needs. They spent time in classrooms observing discussions and listening to pupils share their ideas, and were extremely impressed with how inclusive the approach is. It was fantastic to see all children participating, contributing their thoughts, and developing confidence in expressing themselves. Opportunities to talk, listen and be heard are such an important part of learning, and it was a proud moment to showcase how this is being embedded across school for every child.

We continue to reflect on and develop our practice to ensure that all pupils, regardless of need, are supported to take an active role in their learning and feel that their voice matters.

A reminder that there will be a SEND coffee morning taking place in June, run by the North Tyneside Inclusion Service. This will be a great opportunity to meet other parents and carers, share experiences and access advice and support in an informal setting. Further details have been shared via Seesaw and email.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Banks

Geography fieldwork Trips

As part of our geography curriculum, the children take part in a fieldwork unit each academic year. This year, our geography fieldwork took us to different National Trust sites, where the children had to use maps and compasses to find different markers. All the children were fantastic! The trips not only enabled them to take their map reading skills outside the classroom, but it also allowed them to work in teams, and they even got to spend some time in the parks!

Holiday Activities at Goals, Gosforth

Goals Newcastle has been awarded funding from the Department For Education to deliver Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, known locally as the ‘ease INTO’ programme. The funding is intended for the provision of free places at 'holiday clubs' for children in the local authority area who are eligible for income-related free school meals.

All children attending the programme will be given at least one healthy meal per day. Meals meet school food standards, and they provide a variety of lunch options – including hot meals where possible. Parents of children who have attended ease INTO activities have advised that their children enjoyed being involved in food preparation, and they liked trying new foods.

Another of the key aims of the programme is to help kids to be more active during the school holidays. They expect all children to take part in at least 60 minutes of physical activity on each day of the holiday programme. They will also provide fun and enriching activities that give children opportunities to develop new skills or knowledge, try new things and build their confidence.

This Easter it runs 7th–10th April and 13th -16th April, 10:00-14:00.

If you are interested in signing your child/ren up, click on the following link to complete the form: HAF Programme

Visitors To School

Not only do we ensure our children have the opportunity to take their learning outside of school, we also invite people into school to enrich our curriculum. This term, Debbie from the Farm and Food Discovery Centre is working with Year 3 to begin our very own allotment, Bikeability has been in school this week working with our Year 5 children, Kielder Observatory delivered a workshop to the children who have been attending Astronomy Club and volunteers from St Columba's Church came into school to work with our Year 1, 2 & 3 children.
