Dear families,

We've had an amazing start to this half-term. We are only in week 4, and we have already achieved so much. All children across school continue to try their best and achieve well; we are always so proud of the progress they make and their determination to succeed. Aside from subject learning, we've had lots going on in school. We started the half-term off with World Book Day, followed by our Carabao Cup celebrations. Reception had a wonderful time at Whitehouse farm last week and Year 4 wowed everyone at the skipping festival, achieving 3rd place overall. Parent's evening was a huge success. Thank you to those of you who could attend; we love to share your children's learning with you. Our school football team has got off to a flying start. After a win last week, Greenfields are currently sitting at the top of the league table.

At Greenfields we love to share what we are doing with others as well as visiting other schools to enhance what we already do. This half-term, we welcomed a number of visitors to school who wanted to see our exceptional practice. Firstly, a headteacher and deputy headteacher from Canning Street Primary School came to see our geography and history curriculum in action. We then invited a number of teachers to school who wanted to see our inclusive practice and how we support our community. Mrs Banks and I also had the opportunity and pleasure of visiting London to meet with teachers from across Europe to share what we do, which ended with a visit to an exceptional school in Haringey. As well as this, Mrs Wilson and Miss Love were invited to speak at a North Tyneside event where they shared how we teach our Early Years and Year 1 children.

Looking forward, nursery have their visit to Seven Stories and Ouesburn Farm on the 2nd April and we have our Celebration of Learning events at the end of this half-term:

Monday 7th April: 9am-9.30am Year 5

Tuesday 8th April: 9am-9.30am Year 4   2.30pm-3pm Year 6

Wednesday 9th April:  9am-9.30am Year 1   2.30pm-3pm Year 2

Thursday 10th April:  2.15pm Year 3 class assembly

On Friday 11th April school is closed to all pupils for a staff training day. We return to school on Monday 28th April.

Be Original

Our value 'Be Original' encourages children to be curious, always ask questions and seek out the answers.

Lucy wants to build a rocket ship out of a box to go to the moon. The neighbourhood kids don't seem to think it could happen, it's just a box, after all. Lucy is even more determined-she cleverly builds her rocket, physically trains for space, counts down till launch . . . and nothing happens.

But just when Lucy starts losing faith in her mission (it happens even to ambitious girls), something magical happens! Her rocket transforms and she finds herself in outer space on her way to the moon!

Community Hub

Our Community Hub continues to host lots of different groups and sessions. We have a food pantry and a clothes swap too.

If you have any ideas of a group we should run, want to get involved in volunteering or want more information about it email communityhub@greenfieldsprimary.org.uk or ring 07802419043.

Our Gardening Club have been working hard every Friday to develop our Community Hub garden. They've even found a small pond, which is going to be the next project.

We Are Proud To Be Part Of Greenfields Community Primary School!

We are scientists! The 10th of March marked the start of science week. Every class had a science activity to complete and scientists to research and discuss. Here are our Year 3 children fully immersed in their experiment.

You all know we love the great outdoors at Greenfields and we've certainly got the space to go exploring. Here are our nursery children on a minibeast hunt where they found a frog that they were completely fascinated by. You can also see our Year 2 children enjoying their time in Forest School; I'm sure you'll agree that their dens are fantastic.

Attendance

Our whole school attendance figure for 2024-25 is 94.5%. This is in line with the current National Average. Thank you to all parents and carers who continue to support the best attendance. We have seen a lot of improvement in individual attendance and we see the difference this makes to pupils both academically and pastorally. Please continue to get in touch if you are experiencing any difficulties with attendance or if you are worried about your child’s attendance - we are here to help.

We've also seen improvements in individual punctuality. Remember that our school day begins at 8.40am and the children begin their learning as soon as they are in the classroom.

After the success of last year's Easter Egg competition, we would like to invite children to once again get into the Easter spirit by entering Greenfields Easter Egg competition. Children can decorate a boiled or fake egg at home and bring it into school on Friday 4th April. Eggs will be displayed in the school hall from the week commencing the 7th April and the school council will pick a winner from each year group. We can't wait to see all of the fantastic entries.
