Awesome Walkers!
|
There is no other way to describe our children this week other than totally awesome! This week our whole school, from our Muddy Bairns (aged 2 years) right up to our Year 6 children have been embarking on a sponsored walk in our local area. We were amazed by the things we saw; deer, an array of autumnal mushrooms and fungi, swans, cows, rosehips, elderberries to name but a few.
|
The children's behaviour has been impeccable; their commitment to completing the walk fantastic... and the best of all they have done it with a smile on their faces.
|
We would like to thank all of our volunteer parents and family members that came with us on our walks and helped to chivvy tired legs and a very big thank you to all of you at home who have sponsored your child. They absolutely did you proud. Well done everyone!

Greenfields ...be amazed... visits
|
Over the course of the last year, you have told us that you would like see your children engaging in more trips and visits.
|
As we have begun this year with minimal restrictions, we have been able to embark upon our first set of visits for the school year.
|
Our visits are already planned across the school year and reflect school value we are focussing on for the school term. This means that your children will be guaranteed a visit four times a year.
|
We tasked the staff to plan a progressive way to build experiences for children across their time in school. I'm sure you'll agree the staff have done a fantastic job this half term to give our children some fabulous ...be amazed... experiences.
|
This week, Year 2, Year 4, Reception, Nursery and Year 3 have been on a visit.
|
Year 2 explored the caves and rockpools in Cullercoats Bay and met the amazing men and women who can help us from the RNLI. They had hot chips on the beach and even dared a paddle in the sea!
|
Year 4 saw the stars and then met the stars, with a double day trip. First they saw the Newcastle University Street Scientists who wowed them with some amazing experiments and learnt all about how our planet began. In the afternoon, they visited St. James' Park in search of some football stars. I know the staff were quite emotional when they given the chance to walk down the players tunnel to 'Local Hero'.

Year 3 spent the day in Newcastle at the Discovery Museum, not only trying out some amazing experiments but also learning about the history and heritage of the amazing place in which we live. They walked through history to see what Newcastle used to be like and had the chance to understand how the changes to the city came about.
|
On Tuesday we went on our adventure to Weetslade Country Park. We loved walking up the hill and splashing in muddy puddles on the way. When we got to the top we looked down at the path leading to our school, we were amazed by the view! Once we were at the top we had the best time rolling down the hill.
|
We had the best afternoon at Lockey Park on Wednesday afternoon! The children were incredibly brave and conquered all their fears... climbing up ladders, going on the zip wire and sliding down the very big slide. We are super excited to go again on Tuesday morning.

Halloween fun!
Don't forget that next Friday (the 22nd October) we will be having a Halloween fancy dress up day. We will be taking in unwanted costumes into school for if anyone would like to do a swap for a bigger/smaller costume, rather than needing to buy a new one.
|
If you have a costume you no longer need or use, please ensure that it is washed and in a bag. Please hand in to the school office. The costumes will be available to view after school next week in the reception area of school.
|
The GFPTA would like to invite you to a spook-tacular evening on Friday 22nd October. We will be holding a Halloween Disco and fun evening from 3:30pm - 4:30pm for all children from Nursery to Y6.
Children in Nursery, Rec and KS1 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
Children will spend 30 minutes in the disco area and 30 minutes playing Halloween games and Halloween crafts.
There will be sweets from the tuck shop to purchase on the night.
If you would like your child to attend, entry will be through the main office. £1 per child on the door.

Greenfields All stars!

Next week we will pulling the first of our All stars raffle for children who have kept all of their stars for this half term. Mrs Allan has been busy buying a fabulous prize in line with our ...be amazed... theme.
|

He's behind you!
Thank you to all the parents and carers who have very kindly offered their time to accompany us to the Theatre Royal on our panto trip. If you haven't yet volunteered, but would like to be considered to go, you have until Wednesday next week to email us. In the event that we have too many volunteers we will pull names from a hat.
|
During the first week back, we will contact those parents who are coming on the trip. You will be able to pay for your ticket using the same option on our school gateway app.
|
|
We are hoping to take as many of you as possible, to what will. we hope be a truly magical experience!
|

...be amazed... we couldn't not mention just how amazing the children have been, even when things felt hard (or a bit tiring) this week. So, what we would like you to tell us about is, what is it that you do which is truly amazing?

Most of us want to fly-even if we know we're rooted to the ground. Especially if we know we're rooted to the ground! So when a rabbit spots a bird soaring in beautiful, colourful loop-de-loops, a dream is born. Though her friends tell her "You can't do that!" our rabbit is undeterred. Through comical ski jumps, trampoline bounces, swings on the trapeze, and experiments with kites . . . somehow, some way, there must be a way to fly.

Communication with staff
|
Please be reminded that after 6pm, class teachers will not respond to emails or requests for information on their year group emails, on Seesaw or Google classroom. Many of our staff are in school incredibly early in the morning, and so it is really important that they have time to rest and recuperate in the evening.
|

Many of you will have already met our very friendly new Admin Assistant, Mrs McGarry, who is working with Mrs Wilson in the office.
|
For the next 3 weeks, the school office will be closed for training on a Friday between 10am-12:30pm

Parent Pay - school lunches

Payment for School Lunches
|
We have been contacted by a number of families unsure about the new North Tyneside payment system for school lunches. Joinos has been replaced by parentpay.
|
We would urge all of our parents to register with parentpay by emailing: parentpay@northtyneside.gov.uk (even if you are entitled to free school meals / universal infant free school meals) as this is not only an online payment facility but an important form of communication with the catering team at the Local Authority.
|
We are also aware in the roll out of this new system, some parents have received letters requesting payment.
|
