DandT
This half term as part of our ...be amazed.. value, one of our subject foci is Design and Technology.

At Greenfields, we ensure that children are at the heart of our teaching and learning DT. We aim to make DT an inspiring, creative, rigorous, and practical subject. Through our Enquiry curriculum, DT links are made to the themes to ensure the pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems. They draw on subject knowledge from STEAM subjects (Science Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths). By making links to DT in STEAM workshops and World of Work workshops we aim to show the children the careers than could be open to them in the future with DT skills.

The aim of our DT curriculum is to ensure that all pupils:
  • develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
  • build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
  • critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
  • understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.
Ask your children what they have been learning about in their Design Technology lessons this week.

Autumn Dates

This week we shared with you our intention for key dates and school events for the Autumn Term ahead. We are excited to be able to bring your children as broad and exciting a term as is possible. Please look out for a very special announcement next week!

We are all very familiar now with needing to change and amend things if infection rates change significantly. As you would come to expect from us here at Greenfields, if there is a way for us to bring you these events we will.

If you would like a paper copy of the calendar, please call into the office where Mrs McGarry or Mrs Wilson will be happy to help you.

REMINDERS...

Jewellery
Please be reminded that children should not be wearing any jewellery in school. This includes earrings. Clear plastic retainers for pierced ears are allowed. Staff will ask your child to remove their earrings if they are wearing them in school on the grounds of health and safety. Please can you help us by making sure that your child has removed their earrings before coming to school. We do have a small stock of clear plastic retainers for parents if you require them. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

Collection and Drop Off
Please be reminded that unless your child is in Y5 or Y6, they should be dropped off and collected by an adult.

If you give your child permission to leave our site without an adult please complete the google form which can be accessed here:
https://forms.gle/NUoUKtyoKDhK3NY19

Please do not leave your child to wait at their door before our staff have opened it to welcome children. You must inform us via the office if the collection arrangements have changed for your child. We cannot accept another parent informing us that they are collecting your child at the end of the day. Thank you.

Payment for School Lunches
We have been contacted by a number of families unsure about the new North Tyneside payment system for school lunches. Joinos has been replaced by parentpay.

We would urge all of our parents to register with parentpay by emailing: parentpay@northtyneside.gov.uk (even if you are entitled to free school meals / universal infant free school meals) as this is not only an online payment facility but an important form of communication with the catering team at the Local Authority.

We are also aware in the roll out of this new system, some parents have received letters requesting payment. If you have any questions or queries relating to this please do get in touch and we can direct you to the correct department to help you.
Thank you

Be Amazed

In our half term value,
...be amazed... we encourage children to 'never lose their sense of wonder'. We often talk about finding wonder in the small things. This week can you tells us about the seemingly 'small things' that you did well. Maybe they turned into big things?

Reading recommendation

"Ada's Violin" by Susan Hood.

Our reading recommendation this week is all about a a young girl called Ada who grew up in Cateura, a small town in Paraguay built on a landfill. She dreamed of playing the violin, but with little money for anything but the bare essentials, it was never an option...until a music teacher named Favio Chávez arrived. He wanted to give the children of Cateura something special, so he made them instruments out of materials found in the landfill site. It was an idea that would leave Ada—and her town—forever changed. Now, the Recycled Orchestra plays venues around the world, spreading their message of hope and innovation.

Toast club at 8:15am

It has been so lovely to see so many of you dropping your children early into school for toast at 8:15am.

We were hoping to be able to enable parents to pay using the gateway app- however, doing this would remove the flexibility of using the service as and when you need it.

If your child is in Reception -Y6 and you would like to bring your child for toast, please bring them to the front office from 8:15am. The cost of this service is £1 per day. Please pay at the office in the way in.

Thank you

GREEN ATTENDANCE AWARDS

There is the chance every week for your child to win an attendance award, as each Monday we start counting again.

Well done to all of our winners this week!
