Every day at Greenfields is a values day! Our values appear in all aspects of the children's and staff daily life. As a celebration of the end of this term, we focused our learning explicitly around our school values.

Look at the fabulous work they have completed.
|
In Year 6 we looked at “The Hill We Climb” by Amanda Gorman. She recited this poem at Joe Biden’s inauguration in January this year.
We researched some of Biden’s executive orders, to see what he has planned for his country. We then thought about what we personally felt was really important for a country to address and wrote our own presidential speeches.
At Biden’s inauguration, a lot of people chose to wear purple to symbolise the coming together of the red and blue (Democrat and Republican) political parties to unite America. We mixed paint to create purple and reflected on what it represented.

In Year 5 based on "Overheard in a Tower Block" by Joseph Coelho - the children analysed the poem, and then completed some visualisation tasks of what was being described. We completed city-scapes reflecting the setting.

|
In Year 4, the children look at the book Cloud Busting. This book has an anti bullying theme and is the story of a boy in school told through poetry.
|
We first used popular lyrics to create our own poems and analysed parts of the text to gain a dropper understanding of the character.
We discovered blackout poetry and used our own poems to create our own blackout poem from the perspective of one of the characters. We then created our own poems using rhyming words.

The children in Year 3 have been reading a poem called This is the City by Kathy Henderson. We chose to write about what we knew - school! We mind mapped ideas, drew pictures to help just like Kathy does and then after our shared poems, we wrote our own.
|
|
|
|
The children in Year 2 have been being brave by exploring poetry about things that people may not like "...I don't like poetry!".. not our Year 2!
|
|
|
We had a challenge to build the tallest tower we could, by just using spaghetti and we had to balance a marshmallow on top! Tricky!
|
|
We were brave trying new things this week including taking part in a Zumba session
|
|
|
|
|
|
This week Reception have been focusing on our school value ‘be amazed’. We have been reading the poem ‘Adventures of Isabel’ by Ogden Nash. We enjoyed retelling the poem by taking an adventure through our garden, we did meet some of the characters on the way...We discussed a time that we conquered a fear of ours. Just look at our incredible writing and the amazing things we can do now! We also talked about amazing things all around us and we were fascinated by the sun, we decided to create sunset pictures by blending different colours together. What an AMAZING week!

After the very challenging 12 months we all have faced, I know some families may be looking ahead and thinking about holidays for the future- please see the school calendar with term dates for the academic year 2021/22. Please note the training days when school will be closed to children. We are respectfully requesting families not to book holidays during term time- they will not be authorised. I am sure that you would agree with me; it is really very important that your children are in school for the whole of the year.

If any of our families have any old android phones that they have finished with, which may be lurking in a drawer, we would love you to donate them to us for our Year 4 computing learning all about data loggers. Any phones donated will be wiped of data so that they are safe for the children to use.

Exciting News!
|
You will of course all remember that in September, with the help of the children, we changed our school logo and values statements.
|
I know that many parents have already started to think about next school year. Over the course of the next few weeks we will be bringing you some information about our new uniform for September. We hope that the changes we are bringing will make uniform much more affordable and readily available to all of our families.
|
In the meantime, if your child has out grown their green sweatshirt, please do not replace it; please do contact us as we have some that you can use. Alternatively, if you would like to buy a sweatshirt, we are asking parents to replace with a plain NAVY sweatshirt or cardigan.
|
|
Currently, Asda is stocking blue sweatshirts- 2 sweatshirts for £5.
|

Lateral Flow Tests for families

You can get twice-weekly rapid lateral flow COVID-19 test if you are symptom free, if you are a member of a household, childcare bubble or support bubble of:

- A member of staff who work in a primary school or secondary school or
- A pupil who attends primary or secondary school.
Twice weekly testing is available through the following:

Please note this does not apply to:
|
|
Secondary school pupils, and primary and secondary school staff, who should take twice-weekly tests using home test kits provided by their school.
|
Primary school pupils, as they should NOT be subject to regular asymptomatic testing and only to need to come forward for tests if they have symptoms.
|
How to collect a home test kit from a collection point in North Tyneside
|
- Test kits can be collected from the local test sites located at The Parks Leisure Centre, Terrace Room, Howdon Road, North Shields or Coronation Street Care Park, Wallsend between the hours of 1pm and 7pm you do not need an appointment. Other collection test sites are available and can be found here: COVID Test Finder (test-and-trace.nhs.uk)
- You can collect two packs of 7 rapid lateral flow self-test kits per individual and up to a maximum of 4 packs where justifiable for example for very large or extended families.
- Each individual must register the test and record the results at home, using the NHS website or through the 119 call centre for positive, negative and void results.
- Any individual who undertakes a test at home and reports a positive lateral flow self-test MUST undertake a further test to confirm the result by ordering a PCR test online or by booking to attend for a PCR test at a local test site here: https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
