Supporting the children of Wideopen to be amazed, be original, be brave and be bold.

Mrs Ele Dobson- Headteacher

Christmas has arrived at Greenfields!

Holly
On Wednesday the children were treated to a very special visit from one of Santa's lesser known, reindeer in waiting, Holly. Santa had written to all the children on Tuesday to explain that he wouldn't be able to make it this year, but instead he would send Holly so that the children could make sure he got their messages.

When the children arrived in school on Wednesday morning, to say that there was a sense of excitement in the air would be an understatement! Each class spent some time outside with Holly, finding out about reindeer, where they live, what they eat and of course how they fly(!)

The children were so courteous and well behaved during their sessions- they were a credit to the school; I think Santa would have been extremely impressed. I'm sure that Holly will tell him how very special Greenfields children are.

Thank you Greenfields Community

garden 1
This half term we have have received an overwhelming amount of support from our local community taking the form of many different guises.

Our biggest project has been the development of some of our outdoor spaces completed entirely by volunteers and donations from local residents from Five Mile Park and businesses. A special thanks to Anthony at North East Stone Products on Sandy Lane for the very generous donation of a stone bird bath to enable the children to watch the birds.

Look at how fabulous our Reception garden is now looking thanks to Carly Wilson and Sharon Gibson, both parents in our school, who have worked so tirelessly in all weathers to build, paint, chop, dig and lay patio stones.

An enormous thank you to the following businesses who have supported us; you don't know how valued your help and support is to the children as well- thank you!

Hearts for Homes

hearts
As this year has been so difficult, we are hoping to spread some inter-generational joy between our children and residents from local care homes. All of the children at Greenfields have completed a heart message for a resident in our local care homes.

It is important to us here at Greenfields that children's education extends beyond the academic, but supports them in developing strong values which enable them to become responsible citizens of the future.

CHRISTMAS DATES

Carols in the Community

Next week children will be taking it in turns to sing, outdoors in our local community. We have taken into full consideration the guidance from the government around performing arts and singing which states:

"The limits (relating to Tiers) do not apply where a legal exemption is relevant, for example for work purposes, the provision of voluntary or charitable services, or for supervised activities for under-18s."

Unfortunately, for this reason, we are unable to invite you to the venues as an audience.

Children should wear their school uniform (P.E kit, outdoor learning clothes).
Children will be allowed to wear Christmas accessories if they wish.

Reading recommendation

Miss Smith is recommending "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" by Clement C Moore and illustrated by N Puttapipat.
This is a classic Christmas poem and this beautiful version has gorgeous woodcut pop up pictures to make the words extra special.

We have signed our school up to the charity The Giving Machine which allows you to raise free donations every time you shop online with over 2,000 retailers (including Amazon) by going through The Giving Machine website... there's no catch, it really is that simple.

Set up a Giver account on The Giving Machine and then just visit The Giving Machine website, desktop reminder or mobile app and click on the retailer link you want to shop at. Purchases generate a donation which will show on your account summary once processed by our Machine.

Christmas Presents

We have had some parents ask about whether we will be accepting presents this year. This is year has been a very difficult time for all of us, so please, do not buy gifts for staff.

Thank you

Christmas Dinner and jumper day

We have had a fabulous Christmas lunch today, complete with Christmas crackers...the children and staff look fabulous in their Christmas jumpers!

End of term plans

You may have seen on the news this week that the Government have made a suggestion that schools close a day early at the end of next week.

Greenfields will remain open on Friday 18th December as planned. Children are expected to be in school up until this date.

We have taken this decision based upon the short notice and impact this would have on parents and carers; we recognise that many of you are juggling childcare and we do not want to add any additional pressure for you.

Thank you for your on-going support.
