brave school
The children have returned to school looking refreshed and ready to learn. This half term we are making our focus our school value which is teaching the children to ...be brave...

...be brave ~ confront your fears and take a chance… mistakes are the best lessons ~

This half term we'll be looking at developing the skills needed to take a chance, to know that the best lessons often begin with a mistake.

Why not join us by sharing our #bebrave on social media.

Greenfields... your Community Primary School

poppies
We are inviting parents and carers and our local community to join us in commemorating Remembrance Day this year as a community together. All of the children will be writing a short message of hope and bravery on a poppy which we will tie to the trees that line our driveway.

Over the course of next week, leading up to Wednesday, please do take this opportunity to write a poppy for us to hang on our trees of hope and bravery. A table will be out daily with poppies for you to do this.

If you are not coming to school to drop your children off, you can email your message to:
parentsandcarers@greenfieldsprimary.org.uk
With "poppy message" in the email title.

On Wednesday 11th we will be holding a ceremony for the children in school which we will video and make available to you.

The children have already started writing theirs. Have a look at these lovely messages from our children in Year 6.

In preparation for what promises to be a really special ceremony for the children next week, they have been learning all about the importance of Remembrance.

Riley and Archie from year 6 have written this fabulous poem to help remind us:

Poppy Day
Poppy Day, Poppy Day, to celebrate the fallen soldiers,
The fallen or the dead,
In the poppy fields they shall rest,
The flower of the war,
What all the soldiers adore,
The day we sit in silence,
For those who have fallen,
Fighting for our country,
And our freedom.

World Science Day 2020

Would you BE BRAVE enough to travel into space?

Next week is Science week and the theme is "Innovating for the future."
Does Space Exploration have the potential to help us in the future?
Can other planets provide us with resources?
How can we explore this possibility?

This fits well with our school value of ...be brave... as for developments to take place you must take a chance, confront your fears and learn from your mistakes.

This year at Greenfields, we are exploring a 'Brave New World' by looking at what might happen in the future if humans decide to live on other planets. Each year group will choose a planet and solve the problem of how to live there, including designing the correct space suit, equipment and meals.
Using knowledge of their particular planet they will be brave and innovative; maybe taking on a role of an engineer or graphic designer to work together to produce space suits, space vehicles, resources they will need to take, be an astronaut, - how do you become an astronaut, what would you eat? Examine photographs, produce art work. Then possibilities are infinite!

Who will be our Greenfields All Stars Winner this half term?

At the end of this half term we will be drawing another All Stars raffle. Mrs Allan is already thinking about what she is going to put into the prize box. To have a chance of winning this fabulous ...be brave... prize, all the children need to do is keep their Greenfields stars. Good luck!

Pre-School

pre
In pre-school we have been working lots on physical skills and balancing. The children all started off with holding the adults hand, then as time has progressed, so has their confidence. They were being very brave trying to balance along the plank alone but still had the safety of adult close by.

Nursery

nursery fire 1
We've been brave in nursery this week. We made fire engines in the construction area then realised there was a fire that needed putting out in the garden. We used containers of all different shapes and sizes to put the fire out.

Reception

The children in Reception were so brave yesterday, not only did they learn a poem off by heart with actions, they were able to perform the poem 'Party Time' by Michael Rosen with confidence to an audience. They were fantastic and should be so proud of themselves!

...be brave...

“Remember that bravery is not the lack of fear but the ability to move forward in spite of fear”
This week our family challenge is to share with each other those situations where you might have been frightened to do something but you were brave and succeeded!
We look forward to hearing all about them! Why not share your stories with us on our social media pages.
