PSHE & RSE
Children’s personal, social and emotional development (PSED) is crucial for children to lead healthy and happy lives and is fundamental to their cognitive development. Underpinning their personal development are the important attachments that shape their social world. Strong, warm and supportive relationships with adults enable children to learn how to understand their own feelings and those of others. Children should be supported to manage emotions, develop a positive sense of self, set themselves simple goals, have confidence in their own abilities, to persist and wait for what they want and direct attention as necessary. Through adult modelling and guidance, they will learn how to look after their bodies, including healthy eating, and manage personal needs independently. Through supported interaction with other children, they learn how to make good friendships, co-operate and resolve conflicts peaceably. These attributes will provide a secure platform from which children can achieve at school and in later life.
PSHE education supports our learners to develop into confident, emotionally intelligent, heathy individuals who are prepared for life’s opportunities and challenges.
Through PSHE, children are aware of how they are growing physically, personally and socially. They are able to explore issues such as friendship, wellbeing and change and learn how to cope with obstacles that life may throw at them.
At Greenfields, we want our children to grow up appreciating what it is like to be part of a diverse society and be aware of how to cope with moral, social and cultural issues that may affect them. Children will develop the skills and knowledge needed to successfully manage their lives now and in the future.
At Greenfields the children will:
- Develop an understanding of what makes a strong and appropriate relationship
- Develop knowledge about how to keep themselves physically healthy
- Develop knowledge about how to keep themselves mentally healthy
- Develop knowledge about how they change as they get older
- Understand how to follow an agreed charter for PSHE discussions in every lesson: We take turns to speak, we use kind and positive words, we listen to each other, we have the right to pass, we only use names when giving compliments or when being positive and we respect each other’s privacy (confidentiality)
