Class 1JC

Welcome to class 1JC!

Our class teacher is Mrs Coyle. If you have any questions or you would like to talk to her about anything, she is on the KS1 playground before and after school every day,

Every morning, we have a Read Write Inc. phonics lesson to learn our sounds. We practise how they can be blended together for reading words and broken down for spelling words.

Then we do our English lesson, looking at fiction, non-fiction and poetry texts. We are learning how to punctuate and join sentences together. We try to make our sentences interesting, by using adjectives and time adverbials.

We also have Maths every morning before lunch. We practise counting counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and we are learning to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers, and to measure length, weight, capacity, and time.

Just before lunch, we have great fun doing yoga. This helps to re-energise our minds and bodies. Our exercises help our breathing, balance and strength.

In the afternoon, we continue our learning with Enquiry, Science, French, RE, PHSE and Computing. We also have a timetabled weekly session in the gym or hall, to develop our skills in games, gymnastics and dance.

Each child in our class is unique and beautiful, but together as a class we are a masterpiece!

To find out what we are learning about each half term, the Year 1 curriculum plans can be found here.

Each half term we have a learning reflection event to celebrate the work we have been doing. Our parents and carers are invited into school so that we can show them what we have been learning.

Parents and carers in 1C are also connected to school through ‘Seesaw’. This means that they can enjoy watching their children’s progress every day.

In Year 1, we also try hard to develop good learning habits. You can see our Year 1 Learning Habits here:

Important things to bring to school:

Water Bottles – children can bring their own water bottle into school and store it by the sink in the classroom. Please make sure that water bottles only have water inside.

Reading Folders – children need their reading book and reading diary in school every day.

PE – children need their PE kit in school every day. PE kit consists of a white t- shirt, black shorts and plimsolls/sand shoes.

Homework – Homework is sent home every Friday and needs to be completed and returned to school by Wednesday morning.
