Class 1H

Welcome to 1H with Miss Hodgson.

Every day in Year 1, we do Read, Write, Inc., English and Maths. During these lessons we are able to work together to share our ideas and then create some fantastic work.

Over the year we have become more independent and resilient learners and really enjoy facing challenges together as a class. During SMART week, we looked at the story “Flood” by Alvaro Villa. Miss Hodgson set us the challenge to ‘Beat the Flood’, we worked cooperatively to discuss and develop a structure that would within a flood (we used the pressure from a hose pipe).

Through our Enquiry lessons we are able to learn about the present, past and the world around us allowing us to deepen our understanding of the world. Our question “What if you were an artist or an inventor?” allowed us to delve into two really important jobs throughout history. At the beginning of the topic we walked into the classroom to find lots of objects scattered around, we needed to become detectives. We discovered that they linked together to make different inventions, this made us create predictions and use our reasoning skills together.

We have regular reflection events throughout the year, allowing us to showcase our learning and also show pride in our work.

In 1H we love peer massage, every day after lunch, we sit with a partner and give them a massage. We together create a safe and nurturing environment where we can feel relaxed.

You can find out more about peer massage by clicking this link: Peer Massage

In Year 1 we all have a Growth Mindset, we know things might be difficult at times, but we never give up. We have lots of strategies to support us; we can ask a friend, use resources from the classroom and ask Miss Hodgson. In 1H we are all really strong mice
