Welcome to class 1DC!
Our class teacher is Mr. Coverdale if you have any questions or you would like to talk to him about anything, he is on the KS1 playground before and after school every day.
Class 1DC are a hard working class who value and respect each other. As well as working to maximise our potential, we feel it is important to encompass the values set within Greenfields and promote a growth mindset.
Each morning, we have a Read Write Inc. phonics lesson to further develop our reading. We are all encouraged to read every night with our parents and at school and share our thoughts on what we have read.
Then we do our English lesson. So far, we have looked at a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry texts. We are learning how to punctuate, form letters, use a variety of conjunctions and produce extended pieces of writing. We try to make our writing interesting for the reader and always take care with presentation.
Each day we have Maths before lunch. We practise a number of skills in Maths including counting forwards and backwards to 100 and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We approach each area with concrete resources, a pictorial representational and finally an abstract representation.
In the afternoon, we continue our learning with Enquiry, Science, French, RE, PHSE and Computing. We have a timetabled weekly session in the gym or hall, to develop our skills in games, gymnastics and dance.
Each child in class 1DC is viewed as an individual with a unique perspective and is made to feel valued and respected.
To find out what we are learning about each half term, the Year 1 curriculum plans can be found here.
Each half term we have a learning reflection event to celebrate the work we have been doing. Our parents and carers are invited into school so that we can show them what we have been learning.
A useful tool used throughout Greenfields is ‘Seesaw’ where parents are regularly updated on the work we are doing as a class.
In Year 1, we also try hard to develop good learning habits. You can see them all by clicking on this link: GCPS Learning Habits
